Buckingham Old Gaol Museum

Buckingham Old Gaol Museum is housed in the iconic "castle-like" structure in the centre of the historic market town of Buckingham. The building was originally a gaol, built in 1748 to house prisoners due to appear at the summer assizes, and modified in 1839 to add the "Keeper's Cottage", when it became the town's police station and lock-up. The first Chief Constable was William Giles. The inside of the gaol was modified at that time into separate cells and you can still see one of these original cells and many original doors if you visit the museum.
Inside the Gaol is the Museum of Buckingham's History, which mirrors English history - many of the artefacts were donated by local people!  The museum is unique as it has the only Richard III gold-half angel on display, the only Flora Thompson exhibition and also houses part of the Buckinghamshire Military Museum.
