I’m Garris.

I make indie folk shaped by a long and winding road away from the expected path. In 2014, I gave up on music, packed my things, and moved from Nashville to China. From there I dipped a toe in the Himalayas, had a daughter in Mexico, and eventually found myself teaching music to kindergarteners in Kunming.

But the music I’d stuffed into the attic of my mind wouldn’t stay in its box. If anything, those songs multiplied. Once. Twice. Ten times over. As a teacher and father, my songs even led me into four years of producing children’s music.

Now, after a decade away from my artist career, I find myself returning to a calling that has stood the test of time. What I’m sharing here is part of a body of work I’ve mostly built in private for the past twenty years — songs that feel less like a comeback than a long-delayed offering.
