Indus Script Decipherment by Steven Bonta

My name is Steven Bonta. I hold a PhD in linguistics from Cornell University, and have spent extensive time in India and Sri Lanka doing fieldwork and learning languages, and am proficient in Tamil, Sinhala, Sanskrit, Pali, and Avesta, and have also studied Malayan, Telugu, and Hindi.
This channel contains a series of lectures presenting my partial decipherment of the Indus script, the results of 35 years of research (as of 2025). The lectures should be viewed in order, since they build a case based on inferences from critical distributional and graphological traits of certain import signs and sign groupings. Without understanding the basis for choosing the "anchor values" of certain signs as I have done, this work will seem aspirational and haphazard (as so many claims about the script tend to be).
