The Neven78 Radio Archive

Ethnic strings, cowboy swing, blues, gospel and forgotten pop on shellac.

Welcome to the Neven 78 Radio Archive, a broadcast dedicated to music that is very, very old — played straight from original shellac 78RPM records I’ve collected over the past thirty years.

We’re starting today with some early ethnic music: Balkan tamburitza. Immigrants from Southern Europe and the Balkan countries brought this music with them to America, playing tamburitza in cafés, social halls, and community gatherings. The records you’ll hear go all the way back to the 1920s and 1930s, and I’ll be spinning a couple of those historic sides right now.So let’s drop the needle and see how it goes.

More historic, forgotten 78RPM records will be added as they’re digitized — stay tuned.

Please subscribe to the channel to follow the archive as it grows. Your support is very much appreciated.
