Gabriel Comrie

Gabriel Comrie’s video practice extends his photographic exploration of time, abstraction, and perception into the moving image. His works layer fragments of recorded moments — light, gesture, and environment — into temporal compositions that evoke memory, displacement, and transformation. Rooted in anthropology and the poetics of observation, Comrie treats video as a site of translation between experience and image. His approach to moving images borrows from ethnographic film yet resists narration; it leans instead toward abstraction and emotional resonance. Long exposures, slow motion, and double layering reappear in his videos, as temporal exposures — where the camera becomes an instrument of introspection. He collaborates frequently and is a cinephile at heart.
