The Birds 0f Paradise

The Birds of Paradise were a South London rock band formed in 2003 that carved a distinct niche in the 2000s post-hardcore scene. Defying easy categorization, they fused heavy rock, hardcore, prog, jazz, post-metal, and indie. This erratic, high-energy sound drew fast comparisons to experimental acts like Melt Banana and Rolo Tomassi, earning them colorful descriptions such as "genre-rogering insanicore" and "Sigmund Freud’s Nightmare."
Known for unhinged live shows, they attracted an unlikely following that included Boy George and the Editor-in-Chief of Vogue. Their live legacy includes two UK tours (one alongside Leeds band D-Rail) and a legendary performance at Paris Fashion Week.
Before disbanding, they had two main releases: the Whispering Murray EP (2004, Baseball Fury Records) and a split EP with Charger (2006, Calculated Risk Records). After a 20-year absence, their music is now available on streaming platforms.
