The Pencil Box

The Pencil Box is the only nonprofit teacher free store in Oklahoma. Our mission is to prepare and empower our children, equalize the classroom, and give hope for a brighter future to underserved students attending public schools by offering new and gently used supplies.

In Tulsa County, 66% of students are economically disadvantaged. This creates barriers: 80% of students arrive without essential supplies on the first day, and 82% lack supplies at home for homework. Our model works with teachers who serve as a direct link between supplies and students. Teachers are able to shop at no cost for supplies specific to their classroom needs, ensuring resources are grade-appropriate and directly benefit students.

Since 2015, we have given over $7,943,031 worth of supplies to 2,146 Tulsa educators, supporting 258,693 student learning experiences. With 6 to 1 buying power and a 93 to 7 program expense ratio, we maximize every dollar to provide tools for success.
