The Wird

Wird is an old word. Before it meant anything spiritual, it meant water; like a watering hole or well on a route through the desert, the place a caravan came down to. Not the destination. The reason the crossing was possible at all.

It came to mean the daily practice a person returns to. And wārid, from the same root, is what comes to meet you there.

Man laysa lahu wird, laysa lahu wārid.
Whoever has no wird has no wārid.

That's the whole question of this show. We sit with people from all walks of life, and we look past the income and the accolades to the practice underneath.
