Pack 194 Sports

For many years, Cub Scouts Pack 194 (Arlington, VA) has put on an incredible Pinewood Derby. Hosted by former Cubmaster Matt MacPhail (in the persona of "Allen Mack," racing broadcaster extraordinaire), the Pack's annual race is almost like watching a live broadcast of a televised race -- complete with programmed theatrical lighting, fog machines, high energy sound effects and music, custom photography, and multi-camera instant replays.

When the Covid-19 pandemic arrived, the Pack made the difficult decision to cancel the live derby and put on a "virtual" event. But rather than dialing things back, the Pack took the entire show to the next level, turning a "simulated" broadcast into an eight-episode, week-long series here on YouTube that premiered in the summer of 2021.

In 2022, the series was recognized as a two-time Webby Awards Honoree, and an eight-time W3 Awards Silver Winner.
