ACO Okinawa official channel

Life is treasure
We believe in the power of life.

Our mission is "to share the human anthem and the wonder of life with as many people as possible through the performing arts.
Theater, as a life medicine (Nutigusui), creates a place to nurture people's imagination and sensitivity, and to cultivate [the power to live].

Hisashi Shimoyama, producer and artistic director of ACO Okinawa, first stepped on Okinawan soil in 1972, the year Okinawa was returned to Japan, 27 years after the Battle of Okinawa.
He was overwhelmed by the performing arts and culture that had been cut off from Japan after the war, but had been nurtured in abundance despite the domination of a different ethnic group, and felt the [zest for life] in the sound of the sanshin (Okinawan guitar) coming from the open windows of the houses.
It is a place to cultivate the mission of ACO Okinawa and the theme of "Rikkakarikka*Festa" [Theater is a medicine for life], which is the source of the creation of this work.
