Born Christopher Joseph Smith in Cincinnati in 2004, he-like many others before-became the voice of a generation and a symbol of artistic freedom and expression for the unheard. Was he a singer who rapped or a rapper who sang? Was life really that hard, or was he just exploiting a generational jones for vulnerability? For as long as he can remember, he let his contradictions define him: Charming, but harsh; humble one minute and narcissistic the next; a man who could convince you he was the most put together from the bleak back alleys of the trenches. As alluring as the world he paints with his words is, the proof lies in his unfiltered honesty with "THE FAMILY". A 62CHiLD project can house elements of heartbreak, lust, love, and yearning for self improvement (2022's A Letter From Kold Heart Bart(s); 2023's WON'T BE TOO LONG) and ghetto gospel (2023's Sorry 4 the wait-Ep) with bright eyes and at no loss to the subjectivity at the center. "I'm ALWAYS in my own world," he told Apple Music. "But when I take that step back and really analyze everything ... I've always tried to make music that translates to any and everyone. Because that's really what this sh- is about."
