GhaMuhyi

GhaMuhyi is a fresh composition of traditional music, originating from the Malay Ghazal of the State of Johore, created by Dr Kamarulzaman (also known as Dr Mantabla).

GhaMuhyi was initiated in December 2014, for submission as a project at the Doctorate level at Institut Seni Indonesia Surakarta.

The GhaMuhyi group comprised young musicians who excelled in the traditional Johorian Malay Ghazal. The formation of the group was borne out of the recognition of the great potential & even standing of the traditional Johorian Malay Ghazal with all other music genres in the world. ‘

‘Gha’ is short for Ghazal and ‘Muhyi’ means spiritual growth. Thus GhaMuhyi essentially reflects the innate declaration by the youth of today , of the potential for traditional music to coexist and maintain its uniqueness in the modern world.
