Daoist Yoga

Daoist Yoga is, strictly speaking, neither Daoist (in the religious sense) nor yoga (in that it does not come from India). However, the underlying framework of the ancient Chinese healing and spiritual exercises often called "Dao Yin" utilizes principles centered on the way (Dao), as they spring from a 2500 year old tradition that is more ancient than both. Hence, the exercises are Daoist in that they provide a method by which the practitioner can align with the Dao in accordance with ancient Chinese cosmology (including yin & yang; heaven, earth, and man; the five phases; and organ and channel function. By the same token, though Daoist Yoga exercises are not derived from Hatha Yoga of India, they accomplish many of the goals sought by practitioners of modern yoga. Daoist Yoga practices emphasize health as the foundation, but aim towards personal oneness with the Dao. The fluid, circular, pulsating movements often provide an effective self-healing method for a range chronic conditions.
