Sea Scout Ship Odyssey, Tacoma, WA

Odyssey is a Sea Scout Ship and sail training program based out of Tacoma, Washington teaching youth teamwork, leadership, and maritime skills through weekly training on a historic 90 ft. wooden sailing ship.

Originally designed by Sparkman & Stephens in 1938 as a luxury racing yacht for Vanderbilt granddaughter Barbara Henry, and spouse, Odyssey served the US Navy during WWII and after, before becoming a Sea Scout Ship in 1978.

As a Sea Scout Ship, Odyssey strives to prepare youth for jobs in the maritime industry such as: captains, marine mechanics, tall ship educators, and tug, ferry, or fishing boat crew as well as preparing youth for a host of careers outside of the maritime industry.

Odyssey is a non-profit organization that supports itself through charters, time volunteered by youth and adult leaders, and the Friends of Odyssey non-profit group.
