Haley Heynderickx & The Westerlies - Millennium Stage (March 21, 2024)

Her debut album I Need to Start a Garden seamlessly contrasts her unconventional tunings and American Primitive–inspired fingerpicking with enveloping sonic outbursts. Led by her raw, immersive vocals, the Portland songwriter’s music defies categorization. NPR called her “an utterly distinct and wonderfully nervy, idiosyncratic presence,” while Stereogum named the album “one of the most intriguing and immersive debuts of the year.” The Westerlies, a New York–based brass quartet, will be joining Heynderickx for a collaborative set, showcasing an original body of music that was developed together on an artist retreat in The Berkshires during the pandemic. It is an expansive collaboration that builds off their 2020 performance together on NPR’s Live from Here with Chris Thile, where they debuted expansive new arrangements of Heynderickx’s previously released material.
