Portable Antiquities Scheme

The Portable Antiquities Scheme is a public archaeology project, run by The British Museum and by Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museums Wales, to encourage the recording of archaeological objects found by members of the public in England and Wales. The information about these objects is stored on our database where it is freely available for public research. We have recorded over 1.5 million objects and the data is helping to shape our understanding of Britain's past. On this channel you will find short informational videos to help you navigate our website, search our database and start exploring the archaeology of your local area. There are also a series of longer, more detailed videos to help you identify and record artefacts thoroughly and accurately on our database.
